For a more traditional tasting journey, reach for Golden Monkey, known for honeyed sweetness, gentle spice, and stone-fruit notes, or try Black Dragon Pearls, expertly hand-rolled from fine Yunnan leaves and golden buds.

Black Tea Characteristics and Benefits

Black tea is produced from quality tea leaves that are fully oxidised, developing deeper colour, fuller body, and a richer flavour profile. Depending on origin and craftsmanship, it can taste malty and warming, bright and brisk, or subtly floral and fruity. Black tea also contains naturally occurring antioxidants, and many people enjoy it for its uplifting character, supporting focus and providing steady energy thanks to its naturally higher caffeine content.

Loose, Bagged and Iced

Our black teas are available in loose leaf form, with select favourites also offered in pyramid tea bags and iced-tea pouches. To make sampling effortless, our black tea sampler includes single-serve loose leaf portion packs, so you can brew at home, at work, or wherever the day takes you.

Does black tea contain caffeine?

Yes - loose leaf black tea naturally contains caffeine. Teas made from whole leaves typically provide around 40-70 mg of caffeine per cup (about 250 ml). The amount can vary by tea type, water temperature, and steeping time. If you’re looking to reduce caffeine, browse our decaffeinated or herbal teas.

How long should loose-leaf black tea be steeped?

Steep loose leaf black tea for 3-5 minutes in freshly boiled water (100°C). Strong breakfast blends such as Irish Breakfast can take a full 5 minutes, while lighter styles like Darjeeling are often best at around 3-4 minutes. Longer steeping produces a bolder, darker cup; shorter steeping keeps the brew lighter and brighter.
